Corona RD820II Dual conversion Receiver 35mhz

The RD820II is the lightest (only 9.5g) 8-channel, full range, and ultra narrowband Dual Conversion receiver. Decoded by the onboard microprocessor, the resolution reaches 1024 in order to adapt to the tightest dead band of the digital servo and accurate servo (usually 1ìs only). Compared with Single Conversion receiver, Dual Conversion receiver can reject the mirror frequency more effectively if they have the same components and use the same DSP algorithm. Thus, it gets more reliability. For adjacent channel interrupt (with the transmitters of channe50, 51, 52, 53 working together, and not far way form them), RD680 can reject it more effectively. According to the understanding the modern electronic industry of CORONA, the size and weight of RD820 are the smallest. Special design of the full range and full performance can let you install it on most of the 3D CCPM helicopters, 3D fix-wing plane, and park flyer easily, as well as the glider, the large-scale glow plane. In addition, RD820 can deal with the busy flight situation, and guarantee the safety of the fly.
See the RD 680 User Guide for more details.

Giantcod Note:
The Corona range of receivers are extremely good when used in very "noisy" environments such as those found in electric powered models. Spurious interference generated by brushed and brushless motors and electronic speed controllers (ESC) is termed as "noise". This noise is of not audible but manifests itself as spurious interfering signals generated by high frequency switching electrical systems such as those found in modern ESC's. Receivers are of course very sensitive devices and are often confused by this interference which is so close in a model aircraft. The over used term "glitch" can be most times attributed to noise which is generated on board our models. Tests with transmitters close to the receiver can often mask this interference as the ratio of "signal compared to noise" is balanced in the receivers favour. But as the model is flown further away, the receiver will struggle to differentiate between the transmitter signal and the on board noise. Apart from very carefully optimised IF' filtering and double tuned front end design, the Corona receivers have another clever section built in. This is the DSP decoder, which is a tiny micro-processor with a set of memorised instructions embedded into its memory. These operate as a "digital signal processing" decoder to filter out the interference and send nice clean positioning data to our servos.

Tried as recommended to replace my JR single RX which had slight electric motor interference. Works fine. Worth marking case/plugs to stop wrong way connections if like me your eye sight isn't brilliant. Will buy some more. Thanks again for great service.

This is my second purchase from Giantcod and again arrived well packed. Bought a christal to go with it at same time - tested it and works well. I cannot comment yet on flight performance as i am still building the plane but it appears to be a fine small receiver.

i must have at least 10 of these receivers including the single conversion ones they have never let me down i prefer them to my futaba or hitech

Excellent lightweight and low cost receiver. I have many of these in electric models and they perform extremely well. They are my first choice.

I own several and on the whole very good, nice range, very good interference rejection and no glitching on some quite high power setups. I use on in an EF YAK 68" on 10S at 2400W and all good. I think the problem with these is the build quality, if you get a good one all is great and I'd trust it in any plane in my fleet, if on the other hand it's a bad one, expect problems, ranging from servo stuttering, slow servo response time and extremely bad centering. then again for the cost, if you do get a bad one (and Iv'e had a couple now from GC) simply bin it and buy another. This is my second Corona dual conversion receiver and I have not tested this one yet I am waiting for the Corona xtal delivery to Giantcod .At this price, specification, size and weight there are no other products that come close,my only criticism like a few other people is the flimsy small gauge aerial wire

by Ian Date Added: Sunday 17 January, 2010
I've got 2, the first one works faultlessly in my e-flite Sea Fury and the other I've just bought and tests OK. The look a bit fragile so I think it best to protect them well, but at this price if you crash, throw it and buy another. Excellent product, no reason to doubt what it says in the spec.

I have two of these now and I am really impressed with them with my electrics. They have a brilliant range test and with no glitching so far. I have managed to rid the electrical conflicting issues making for better 3D flying. they are nice and small and light. The only thing is the antenna that is really thin so on has to protect that rather well. The best part is the price and the good service from Giantcod. Delivered in 24 Hrs to my door.

Just received my new dual conversion rx. Stuck in a Futaba DC crystal, and tried a range check - 25 yds. And that was before I unrolled the rx aerial! Havn't tried it yet with the aerial unrolled, but if its anything like my synth rx, range will not be an issue. One thing I am particularly pleased with, there is no apparent "stepping" of the servos. The synth rx does step the servos, my Mpx Evo9 with the trim setting set to 0.5% could some timetimes not move until 2 clicks of trim were added. A very minor criticism, but otherwise delighted with both rxs. I had been pondering going 2.4Ghz, but then started to count the cost of replacing all my rxs. The Corona Rxs seem to good to be true at the price, but I think I'm about to make my flying glitch free without spending a fortune!

Just an update, been flying mine in my Mini Blade for the last couple of months, had the plane as far away as I could see it (Multiplex Cockpit Sx Tx) and no issues at all. If you fly 35 Mhz and need a compact Rx then i have no hesitation in recommending these.

I use these in many of my E gliders, which occasionally rise to frightening heights, and they have all performed faultlessly, except once which was my fault. The aerial wire is a bit too thin and rather fragile on this receiver, and I inadvertantly pulled the wire and snapped it off about an inch from the receiver without realising it. I flew the model in the company of other flyers, one of whom was on an adjacent channel. The model flew faultlesly, sometimes at great height until I overflew the adjacent frequency coming in to land, and then it didn't! Luckily not too much damage. but it just shows how solid the interference rejection is on these receivers. I now tape the aerial down to the fuz where it exits to stop me doing this again. Gliderman.

UPDATE. After flying knife edge with all servos working hard, end on to the aerial; then at 'speck' height - I havn't seen a single glitch. There once might have been the slightest delay in aileron in a spot where it would certainly have glitched before, but that could equally have been a gust off the hedge and I imagined it! No twitches, jumps or anything that I had previously. I need one to cure my other intermittantly glitch plane now :-)

Much better noise rejection than the GWS dual conversion 8 ch receiver it replaces. Test performed by introducing metal to metal noise via the servo gears, metal screw and a big knife! Tx aerial down. The GWS twitched all the servos repeatedly, this one just has the slightest buzz on the servo being interfered-with. Looks very promising. Flight test at the weekend.

The Corona dual conversion receivers have sorted out some bad gliches I experienced when flying electric powered models at my club. I had looked into going over to 2.4 and thought this was the only way to go to solve the problem albeit an expensive one. However having found and used these little receivers I reckon I've saved myself a packet as I have not had any glich problems since using them. Anthony.

Used in combination with a Corona crystal. No glitches as of yet. Very lightweight product, but antenna is small gauge as well. Doesn't seem to make a difference, good reception.

About a quarter the size of my Futaba 8ch D/C Rx and a quarter the weight too. Works fine but needs a FULL SIZE xtl not the mini ones which does stick out the end a bit. Works brilliantly though.

Buona ricevente.

Very compact 8 channel Rx, just installed in a Mini Blade Glider and set up with my Cockpit SX, not had a chance to test fly yet but first impressions are very good. Very quick delivery from GC too.

by christopher Date Added: Wednesday 07 January, 2009
If you're suffering glithces these will sort it out! My F18 parkjet was unflyable before fitting one of these. It has since been transformed into a rock solid performer. I don't use anything else now, the only trouble is i can't blame high speed plane into ground manouvers on glithces anymore! ;-)

by adrian Date Added: Thursday 11 December, 2008
realy good! used one of these in a preiviously unflyable glitchy flying wing and it cured all the problems i had.

BRILLIANT RX NO PROB,S BETTER THAN MY JR RX.USED FUTABA DC CRYSTAL AS NO 78 IN STOCK FROM GC

by Mumtaz Date Added: Tuesday 11 November, 2008
Great receiver. Couple of pounds more expensive that ESKY 6 channel single conversion. The fact that Giant Cod stocks the dual conversion crystals at a great price makes this receiver even better than anything else on the market. Great service too. Delivery is superfast when in stock!!!

Very Pleased with this receiver ,I bought also a Corona Crystal and am using in a small electric aircraft with the unit located next to the Brushless ESC with no interference problems or glitches whatsoever. I would buy another without hesitation. 5 Stars

I have had 2 with a 3rd on its way and have found two models (Britton Nornan Islander & a Cessna 172 ) which both suffered bad glitching in flight are now flying glitch free after fitting these Corona recievers,I have been using Futaba crystals as I can not seem to work how to order the channel i want with the Corona cristals, perhaps Rob Could make it easier to understand ,or is it me being dumb????. Keep up the good prices Rob but many Items that are really welcomed are nil stock. regards ...........From JOHN

Forget all the negative stuff about synth rx's and just get these! I bought and have recived and tested another one!

by Craig Date Added: Sunday 13 July, 2008
Great RX, will definately be buying more, especially at these prices ! Full range just as it says ! My only gripe if anything would be that the arial wire is a bit on the thin side, but that's all. Otherwise I can't fault it, as it's a nice compact size too.

by Giuseppe Date Added: Saturday 24 May, 2008
I bought one about two weeks ago but couldn't test it because I was waiting for the crystal from corona to arrive at Giant cod, however I got fed up to wait any more for it and decided to buy a Futaba DC one. The test was unbelieable I got a very good range with the wire antenna coiled up and my tranny(JR.)aereal colapsed, could not believe it.......much better than any other famous brand names. In the future I shall only buy corona receivers and I shall tell all my friends here in Spain.

by mark Date Added: Saturday 05 April, 2008
Brilliant RX. I use them with a futaba d/c xtal in Glow and electrics and they are full range 'solid'. Weight is a bonus and 8ch allows direct use of the pre-programmed channel mixing options on my TX. Xtal placement is where it should be too, at the end. Mark.

by Tony Date Added: Thursday 06 December, 2007
I bought one of these this week; once again it was delivered promptly the next day. I am not sure if I can mention brand names legally, but suffice to say that my remotes are up there with the top named brands. Anyway I did a range test today against my top brand one and got further distance from the Corona. I defiantly recommend this and will be using them in all my planes from now on.
