I recently bought two Corona Synth receivers the 4 channel and this 8 channel. The 4 channel unit I was not impressed with and you can read my review under that listing. However this is one sweat receiver. I installed it in the same plane that had been glitching like mad with the RP4S1 and it was just rock solid with this baby at all throttle positions. Binding and set up of failsafe was also very simple. It is so nice to have failsafe now without the price tag associated with a PCM receiver. Now there are those that will say just go and buy a 2.4Ghz system. Well to that I say I already have as I have two transmitters running FrSky modules and they work great. BUT I still have 35Mhz sets and why the hell shouldn't I keep using them as they have served me well for many years and you know what??, with these receivers they will continue to do so.
Will certainly buy more of these.

Picked one of these up for my FPV with a JR X-378, I can recommend these and will be buying Corona Rxs again. Just one note, it takes a while to find the correct Freq, so if it doesn't, keep on trying.

Yes, I have a FRSKY module too, but because I really have many models at 35 Mhz, I love this receiver :)

If you buy them from Hong Kong you can get them 75p cheaper but 5-10 days Delivery and you might get nobbled by customs. I think Giantcod has my custom for the forseeable future

Originally bought the RP8D1 for my glow powered planes where I have always flown on 35MHz dual conversion RX's . Small receiver compared the the full size Futaba receivers I have.
Arrived well presented in a custom 'tin'. Now fitted it to my MS Swift with 200W motor upgrade as a last resort to cure glitching caused by power system. Had previosuly tried two other ESCs and 3 single conversion receivers with same glitching problem.
Fitting Corona synthesized receiver INSTANTLY cured my glitching problem. Flew now 8 battery packs with no problems at all as far away as I could see.
Additional feature of failsafe is a step up from basic receivers. Would highly recommend this receiver and has given an extended life span to my 35MHz system.

Got the Rx, first word of caution (as mentioned on RCGroups) be careful to check the way the cover is printed. I expected the same convention as Spektrum/Futaba i.e with channel numbers facing up, signal pins are uppermost. On the RP8D1 the negative pins are uppermost!!
My Tx is a Futaba T9CP. Spent a whole afternoon trying to get lock on until I read an RCGroups thread that said check the Tx Shift. I needed PPM not as mine was set (PCM). Changed to PPM and bingo, it set immediately. I've written this to help rather than review.
Giant Cod service - second to none.

Rob sent me a nice email asking for a review, so here goes. Although I've not installed it yet; I was looking for an inexpensive 8ch receiver for one of my scratch built fun flies. This seemed to fit the bill. The only slight downside is that it is limited to 4.8v. Sometimes on larger models I do use 6v.
This however looks and is a suitable low budget receiver for generally "knocking about" for Sunday flying.

I've just bought my second of these. The first one is about 6 months old now and has been in a 0.40cu model. No glitches at all, whereas the area where I fly is known for producing the occasional short glitch. Masses of range, my model has been barely bigger than a dot, and no problems. Don't think I'll bother changing to 2.4gig anymore!
Only slight criticism is the very fine wire used for the aerial. This must be installed carefully, and checked regularly for snagging. My fear is that it may break internally one day, and I wouldn't necessarily know .

I have an electric converted Weston Cougar 2000 with a TP3520 630KV on 4S with Welgard 45A ESC. Plenty of power but has always been very glitchy with Std Futaba 35Mhz RX even with Ferrite Rings installed. Always had to keep the model in close. Changed the RX to the Corona RP8D1 and now no glictching WHATSOVER. Range is as far as I dare fly and with expo rates (60%), even with the Cougar's "Barn Door" control surfaces, movememnt is smooth enough. A real no brainer. KEEP EM IN STOCK Rob!!!!

At first inspection it seems an excellent little receiver. I ordered one of these as my combination of Tower Pro SG90's and a GWS Naro receiver was making the servos go wild.
Swapping to the Corona immediately tamed them. Have yet to test away from the bench and will be interested to see if the phenomenal range reported by others is realised.
Excellent service from GC - arrived next day.
Only reason for 4* is the stepped servo response. I am sure it will not make any difference when flying, especially with me at the controls, but when used to seeing the servos smoothly following the sticks with my JR and Futaba Rx's it is a bit strange to see the arms moving step by step.

Someone say: "I never fit a low cost receiver into an high quality model" But many of them loose their models for the failures of an high price receiver!
I never had problems with this wonderul receiver, and I never heard about anyone who had problems! Good receiver, with no doubt comparable with the high cost and very famous receivers!

I'm a big fan of these receivers when used for the right application - ie non demanding conditions in terms of resolution and centering. They are great for range and glitch suppression but I thought I would try and use one in a moulded glider and the surfaces show that they have a "double neutral" (ie will settle in different places depending on whether you come from up or down. Very noticeable on the bench with a long pointer and equally noticeable in flight on a mouldie.
I've used them in lots of other less demanding applications like foamies etc and they are great for that.

Fantastic value for a great piece of equipment.
Using 4 of them now, and they will be my default purchase for any other model.
There was a slight problem on the internet order (no acknowledgement was received, and the items were still showing as in my basket).
I made a telephone call and left a message. The return call from Rob made it clear he knew what had happened. It was immediately put right, he made a return call of confirmation that the problem was solved within a few minutes, and the order still received the next day.
The return call was from Hong Kong! Now is that good service, or what?

This is a great receiver for the price.
Trim resolution is a little coarse but apart from that it performs faultlessly.
It locks on easily to my Futaba transmitter and the synthesised function means
you can easily change channel.
Highly recommended for small models, HLG's / DLG's etc.

Incredible performance from such a good value reciever. Test flown tonight in a GWS Formosa, equiped with all gear supplied by Giant cod. Strongpower Motor and ESP, E- Power micro 8.5 servos, loongmax 1000 mah 3 cell lipo. 3 flights in excess of 10 mins , flown until almost out of sight. Not a single glitch during the 3 flights. Myself and fellow club members were most impressed. We will definately be buying more.

No need for a review on this reciever one word will do EXCELLENT I have used these recievers for the past several months and so have fellow club members. At our flying site we are restricted to gliders and electric soarers only so our flying is always long distance and rhese recievers have the reputation that if you can see it you can contol it.

This reciever is by far the best £20 i've sent in ages. It outshines comparitable recievers by a mile for a quarter of the price. Luckily i listened to a friend who adviced me when i had a problem with my GWS F15 with throttle glitching at anything over 20-30 metres distance. I took his advice and purchased the RP8D1 with doubts, but guess what? NO MORE PROBLEMS! I can fly it has far as i can see it, and it's perfect. With out doubt this reciever is BRILLIANT, and i will certainly be buying more. EXCELLENT!

Very good: I use 8 pcs for 35MHz GRAUPNER and one frends of mine 3 pcs for 40 MHz Multiplex TX.
Only a bit difficult to program the failsafe: but it work.

This Rx will be fitted to a 3m span, ASH-26 glider.
As I've said before...........I already have one fitted in a 2.6m span, Discus CS.............superb response, no glitching...............more than enough range.
DON'T LET THE LOW PRICE PUT YOU OFF....................THIS IS A SERIOUS BIT OF KIT, THAT GIVES THE BIG BRAND NAMES A KICK UP THE BACKSIDE, WITH REGARDS TO QUALITY AND COST EFFECTIVENESS
Buy one and see for yourself !!
All we need now, is a PCM version !

Bought one of these to try on a 40 size conversion with 5 servos and miles of extensions and extremely poor range and high glitching on a Futaba 136. Had no luck with ferrite rings etc. Put this in and can fly out of sight without any glitching. Considering this and that a good full size crystal is around £5, these I think are excellent value and perform well. I use channel 76 so cannot comment on the other issues mentioned in the reviews.

There are reports that these Rx's don't work on freqs below Ch60, or above Ch80.
Mine is locked to Ch86............and has flown perfectly !
Yesterday though, I decided to try my RP8D1 on Ch55...............it worked perfectly !
It was then tried on Ch56............not a problem !!
So........before you read and believe all the bad press, test your Rx to see if it does operate on the full range of UK freqs.
There may well be a bad batch...........I don't know ?
But there is nothing wrong with mine.
Mine was tested, and is flown with a fully synth JR PCM9xII Tx

Hi , just wanted to say that I have two of these receivers one in a Biro & one in a Acromaster, where I fly, before I got these receivers each plane would have minor - severe glitches the receiver which I used before use a crystal single conversion receiver , since replacing them with the Corona RP8D1 Synthesised Dual Conversion Receiver I have NOT had any glitches whatsoever and I use channel 85. On my experience I would buy another if I needed one

Been using a couple of these receivers lately with no problems at all. There is one location on our flying field that seems to produce a very brief glitch, quite repeatably, on many members' planes that fly through it. These receivers seem quite immune to this problem. Also tested them with transmitter on adjacent channel (10 kHz away) right next to my plane, with my transmitter switched off. Not a twitch !
Been some comments on the site about output resolution. The output on this receiver seems to be quite highly filtered, so some lag or reduction in resolution may be the result of this. Treat this for what it is - a cheap (you don't need to buy a crystal) 8 ch. dual conversion receiver for sport flying, and very good value. Only complaint - aerial attachment seems quite fragile

I'm always happy to try new things though, so I purchased an RP8D1.......to see how it performed against my more usual JR RS70's and RS77S's.
The Rx was fitted to a 2.6m CM Pro Discus CS glider, and was test flown off the slope, on the 01/09/08............using Ch86.
I had heard about problems with this Rx locking to JR radio's.....................but it works perfectly with my PCM9xII Tx.
Range wasn't an issue............so in my personal opinion, this is a seriously great little unit, at pocket money prices !
I hope that Corona do fix the known issue about Freqs below Ch60..........and I hope they bring out a PCM version of this one at some point too.
I'll be buying some more of these, deffo

Sorry to be negative here but I am giving you an honest opinion from my recent experiences.
Well, I have now had two of these RX\'s and both are poor on channel 58 with very short range and insensitivity, as the signal keeps being dropped. I suspect that although the manufacturer has updated the firmware to allow for channels below 60, the front end analogue tuning/filtering section has not been given the extra bandwidth to operate correctly below 35.00Mhz.
I don\'t think the manufacturer has proper quality control procedures in place, as simple tests at both ends of the frequency ranges would pick these problems out.
I also found that once locked on and generally working, although with poor range, the resolution of ther servos is poor and they actually move slower when compared with my JR Synth and GWS RX\'s. The servos also generate more noise when being driven by these RX\'s, probably because they are being pulsed in steps rather than driven in a linear mode, something to do with the way the the outputs are being decoded by a low bit count CPU? The servos operation is also mushy with poor/vague centering.
Compared with my JR Synths, they are poor and not worth buying even though they are cheap.
If you look on the Giantcod forum about this product you will see that someone from Corona has stated that these RX\'s do not work below channel 60.
I discvered this when trying to use it on CH58 as it wouldn\'t lock easily and gave poor range.
Giant-cod needs to put the channel limitations in the spec data, so people are made aware.
(This is a note from Giantcod - Info has been added, BUT Corona assured us and everyone else that the problem had been fixed. It is only now they have admitted there is a problem again)

I agree with all that has been said before , but I do have one concern ,and that is I would like it better ie 5 stars if it had a hard plastic case .

works fine in a 6 servo 2m glider at very long range.
also no problems in electric aerobatic model.
why buy xtals ?

I've been testing a couple of the RP8D1 synthesised receivers over the last few months in both glow and electric powered models with complete satisfaction.
These are narrowband FM dual conversion incorporating numerous features not found in leading brand receivers costing around twice the price of the Corona's. Tuning to a new frequency is very simple, the onboard search led will blink rapidly until it "sees" your transmitter, then simply locks the frequency into memory. The memory holds this frequency until a further change of frequency is implemented. A tiny press button is used to acviate the search process.
Range is extremely good as these receivers have very sensitive front ends, filtering of the correct signal is carried out by multiple stages of ceramic and crystal filteras. Finally, bringing up the rear as it were, is the clever Corona DSP (Digital Signal Processing) decoder. This feature cleans out nasty glitches often associated with noisy environments found within electric models.
Size for size and pound for pound, I doubt there's anything else available which can hold a candle to the performance of these reliable and amazingly good value receivers.....so yes.... all of my models are now using either a standard crystal version Corona unit such as RD620II RD820II and this latest version RP8D1. Complaint.....not enough stars to rate this product properly!!!
