Giantcod Note The RP4S1 is a receiver which incorporates front end circuitry (aerial input) capable of radio frequency sensitivity in the order of 2u volts. This in simple terms refers to the receivers capability of collecting very weak signals from the transmitter and processing them into useable ‘servo positioning’ data. Considering how tiny these 5 gram receivers are, they provide excellent overall performance. They are made in China by Corona, and the manufactures claim over a mile of ground to air range. Careful and adequate filtering of the received signal is achieved using multiple ceramic filter elements.

The recovered signal from the transmitter is converted to an audible data stream (servo positioning data) which is applied to the clever DSP decoding section. This section separates the relevant servo channels for aileron, rudder, elevator and throttle. The electronic device used in this stage is a micro-processor capable of storing a set of software instructions which are used to further process the servo data and clean out those nasty glitches. The electrical environment within an electric powered model is often very ‘noisy’. Most of this interference being generated by the motor and ESC due to high frequency switching. When a model is seen to suffer from those deadly down elevator glitches etc, replacing the receiver with one from the Corona range will often eradicate such interference completely.

In order to make the most of available space in small models, Corona has adopted an unusual and very compact servo connector arrangement. This still works very well comprising just 4 connectors, battery power is provided via a simple Y lead if all 4 functions are in use. Any servo connector can have the battery supply/servo Y lead or a redundant channel can be used. Don’t bother looking for a crystal socket as this receiver uses synthesised technology to provide the signal normally associated with a plug in crystal to select the operating frequency.

Tuning the Corona RP4S1 is a very simple and quick operation. The receiver has a “tuning” LED and a small button to initiate the channel search process. To tune the receiver to a new frequency, first of all make sure the transmitter is switched on and quite nearby. Connect a servo and battery pack to the receiver, the on-board red LED will blink twice, now with the point of a pen or similar, push the search button once and you will note the LED blinks twice once again. Within a 2 second period after the LED has blinked, press the button once again. You will notice how the LED is now rapidly blinking while the receiver scans the band to find your transmitter. The receiver will usually lock onto the appropriate channel in a matter of seconds, and the indicator LED should now be permanently illuminated. This indicates that tuning has been successfully completed and a suitable channel has been locked.

Take a look at the forum for more details;
Corona 4 Channel receiver manual

Due to software problems these receivers CANNOT lock onto frequencies below channel 60 or above 80.

Excellent product so far. Binds easily, but not quite as in the instructions - haven't set up failsafe yet. Great range and discrimination... Not a flicker in range test from the far other side of the pits. Aerial wire is a little weak and you must be careful handling and arranging strain-free mounting.

Usual next day delivery. Easy instructions, easy to use. At the field, I can't fault it. Well worth the money, I will order more in the future.

Tried one in a new plane: locked onto my JR tx ok, but could not set up fail safe as described. First test flight, about 30 secs, no problem. Next flight, after about a minute or two, lost control when only about 100 feet away: I guess motor was at about 20% power, flying descending gently, flew past me about 20 feet away and into a hedge, with no damage. Did range checks, everything seemed ok, so risked another flight: same happened again, but unfortunately it cleared the hedge this time and landed beautifully (I'm told) in the nearby fishing lake. Fortunately it is a foamie, and floated, but water got into the fuselage, so the radio may have got wet. It would not respond correctly afterwards, so I must assume it did, so no guarantee. I have bitten the bullet and forked out for a JR rx, no more Corona for me.

Bought for fpv. Range test on the ground (after straightforward binding) gave an astonishing 120 paces! I have ordered more. I am taking a chance as I have had several useless corona RX's. Corona's quality control must be among the worst. I would give it 5 stars if iIthought they would all be the same!

light, binds well win my sinth tx (mpx cockpit sx), worth it's price!

Right price. Good service. Easy to bind with TX. Awaiting suitable weather to test fly.

Tiny and very light. Binds very quickly to my zebra 4ch as well as my futaba transmitter. Only 2 quid extra for the dual conversion version though...

Bought one of these to try and stop my Easystar glitching like mad since going brushless, quite easy to set up allthough took a number of attempts to lock onto my FF6 on channel 72 but that may have been down to me not doing it exactly as per instructions. Tested the plane yesterday and the range is brilliant and the flight was completely glitch free!! Very happy with this RX and I have ordered another Corona synth RX for a flying wing I have bought.

Arrived within two days----a big plus I personally had a problem reading the set up procedure, however I had a friend with glasses who was kind enough to come round to my house and help out. He knew what he was doing and within minutes had it sorted. There is however one mystery that remains and that is when ordering I placed an order for what I thought was a single conversion receiver only to discover that on the bottom of the box it says" Thank you for purchasing this dual conversion receiver, but printed in the minutest text that I have ever seen on the receiver itself it says single conversion receiver. Apart from this everything appears to be okay and roll on the next windless day for testing.

Excellent receiver, and I mean really good especially the size of the case. Tuned in immediately using the special tool supplied. No crystal required and so neat that it will fit comfortably in most aircraft.Treat yourself to a good product at a reasonable price

not tested this one yet, but I have one that I am using in a foam plane that has the ESC sitting next to the end where the servos plug in with all the wires passing over each other & the aerial is next to the ESC, not a single problem with this setup.

Got two of these in nitro powered models, a WOT4 & Bomerang Trainer. Have been flying most of this year with them using a Futaba T6EXA using CH82 with out issues. NEVER had a glitch or syncing or range issues. Can't fault em!

This is a fantastic value for money and performance receiver. When range tested proved to be further than the standard receiver by a considerable margin. I have it installed in a large electric powered glider and have flown it untill it is just a spec in the sky without a glitch. It also has the added bonus of a fail-safe facility allowing the throttle to be cut and the control surfaces to be set in a neautral position in the event of loss of signal. Trevor M

Did not bind to my Ch68 MPX Picoline and was found faulty @ GC test center. After a correct (bit slow, 5 weeks) refund now happily using dual-conversion conventional X-tal receiver, also from Corona&Cod.

What great receivers these are.I took off and did a completed circuit and a half without a problem before someone mentioned that I had not raised the transmitter aerial!!. Not to be recommended as a test method but it proved how good these receivers are.I have 4 Corona Synthesized receivers and I have never had a problem with any of them.

by Brian Date Added: Thursday 09 July, 2009
I put it in my Blizzard as it is difficult to to remove once in place and it works flawlessly and so saved having to tie up a very expensive 2.4ghz futaba Rx.

by Chris Date Added: Wednesday 24 June, 2009
Well, what can I say?. These little receivers are OUTSTANDING. My Futaba DC Receiver went 'on the fritz' last week, and being a bit short of cash, thought I would try one of these in my Ultrafly Tutor. I have been really impessed with it!. It is Sooooooo easy to use, just press the buton, and Hey Presto, locked on in no time. Have had absolutely no glitching, and has great range. I've found it a revelation, as I have never tried a systhesized receiver before. It's so good, I've just ordered another for a new model I'm building. It's the end of crystals for my 35mhz flying from now on.

Incredible for the money, reliable and glitch free, very impressed. I now own 2 of these fitted to an indoor and an outdoor shock flyer.

In normali condizioni nessun disturbo e ottima portata. Buon prezzo per le sue caratteristiche.

I didn't find setting the failsafe very easy, but think I got there in the end. Apart from that, these seema very neat unit and I would be happy to buy again.

by philip Date Added: Sunday 01 February, 2009
seems a cracking little unit, not flown it much yet but having a failsafe built in is a nice feature. small light and easy to use.

Amazing no more glitching or twitching plane, I use Art tech radio with brushless motor and have sufffered twitching and controll problems on three planes, I put the Corona into one and all problems are solved. Radio test on the ground distance is now as far as I can see, in the air is also as far as I can see glitch free. I will order more for peace of mind.

by Andy Date Added: Friday 07 November, 2008
Simply brilliant I have it in the nose of an electric glider, sat right next to the ESC. Not even a glitch. Andy
