Giantcod Test Result

This is an ideal brushless controller for lightweight indoor models, or those plastic fantastic Depron designs for outdoor park flying. The ESC is rated at 10 amps and has some programmable features. It has BEC facility delivering a maximum of 1 amp which is adequate for up to 4 micro servos. Tests were carried out in flight whilst installed onto a “Butterfly” indoor model airframe. The model has a small Typhoon brushless motor fitted with a 9x6 slow propeller and a 1000ma 2S Li-po pack supplying power.

The model was thrashed around at full throttle for quite some time until the batteries charge was nearing exhaustion. In free air the ESC showed no signs of heating up at all despite the lack of aluminium heat-sink on this unit (presumably left off to reduce weight). This little device really is as cheap as chips, especially considering the cost of the original controller removed from the model for testing. A few years back the motor and ESC combination in the test model cost around £60.

It would be reasonable to say that this ESC represents amazing value for money, and appears to be robust, all for less than a fiver.

Seems to take battery down to _2.9V/cell. Bought Hobbywing 10A as replacement which cots out at ~3.2V/cell.

great bit of kit for just over a fiver! ordered 2 of these puppys for antweight robot speed controlers. does get a bit warm driving a 12g outrunner, but is good for what it is, the hobby wing ones are a little better, i can see why they cost more. ill definatly buy more of these!

limited feature esc. no throttle calibration, which is really needed in multirotor applications. i was cheap and regret it now. i had 1 of them burn when it suddenly started on its own on my workbench. and they suddenly cut out in high throttle situations, which again makes them less than optimal for multirotors. for planes im sure theyre fine just dont yank too much power through them.

The first time I ordered they came in blue heat shrink and unmarked. Both worked fine. The second time I ordered they came in black heat shrink with a silver/black 10A sticker. Tried both on my blue wonder 1500kv and got 18watts! Same setup with one of the blue covered one’s and got 23 watts. Tried both of them on a black mantis 1500kv in runner. The best I could get was 44 watts. The blue covered one I use with this motor gives 60+ watts.

Wrapped in usual GC blue shrink. Hooked up and run 2805's with no problem straight out of the box. Can't get to grips with programming but as things are doing what I need no real issues. Cheap as chips and work, bargain.

Looks different, wrapped in light blue shrink sleeve. Not due to go into build just yet, so cannot comment on performance.
