Inflatable Pool Maintenance and Pool Care

Like conventional in-ground swimming pools, inflatable pools also require maintenance to ensure proper, continuous use. Further, in the absence of chemicals or filtration systems used to maintain in-ground pools, inflatable pools can become unhygienic and accumulate bacteria and algae - even after draining and drying them. These simple steps will guarantee a clean and safe pool for you and your children every summer.

The first thing to remember about an above ground inflatable pool is placement. Always select even ground to lay the pool on. Even slightly undulating surfaces may affect the integrity of the pool's thick rubber sole in the long run due to repeated friction.

After using the pool for an extended period of time, pour a little pool cleaning solution into the water. Stir the water vigorously for a while and let it sit for a few minutes. Then, use a pool brush and gently scrape the walls and floor to remove any bacteria or algae colonies. You can also make a homemade pool cleaner by mixing five parts of water with one part of bleach or vinegar. Don't pour the vinegar or bleach directly into the pool as it may degrade the material.

Next, drain the water out using a pump, bucket or hose (remember to wash the end of the hose before sucking them). Dip a rag into a little cleaning solution (either homemade or commercial), and gently rub the corners, grooves and other hard to reach places inside the inflatable pool. Remember, even small traces of bacteria or algae can quickly regrow with just water and sunlight.

For larger pools, please only use commercial cleaning solutions. Make sure to get a pool brush with multiple detachable heads and long (or telescopic) handle to ensure you can reach every nook and crannies inside. Pay close attention to the floor as the draining valve is usually located a few inches above the bottom. An automatic or robot pool cleaner is an excellent way to help clean the floor. Simply turn it on, place it on the floor and it will do the cleaning underwater.

Last but not least, do not put any pressure on the air tube as it is vulnerable to leaks. When folding your pool for transport or storage, keep the folding lines away from the air tube.
